College Prep

SAT/ACT Tutoring, Test Anxiety, Executive Functioning Coaching

SAT Prep & ACT Prep

Taking the SAT or ACT can be one of the most daunting events in a student’s academic career. It can feel like there is so much pressure to do well in order to get into the “right” college or to get a scholarship to make college more affordable. I have been tutoring for the SAT and ACT for the past 15 years.  I have experience helping students who experience dyslexia, ADHD, test anxietyexecutive functioning issues and other learning challenges. Its my job to help identify the specific challenges a student is encountering and tailor the tutoring sessions to help in those areas.

Based on my past experience with students I’ve tutored for at least 8 sessions, you can expect to raise your score by an average of 80 to 120 points by working with me one-on-one.

Get Started

Andrew is an empathic and intelligent young man who
has been an enormous help with SAT tutoring for two of our boys. He is able to hone in on their unique talents and areas that need improvement and work with them to greatly improve their outcomes.

Test Anxiety

Test anxiety and confidence issues can be serious road blocks for students, causing them to underperform on standardized tests. As a counselor, I’m skilled at working with clients to overcome the mental hurdles that hold them back from fulfilling their potential. I help students find the balance of focus and relaxation, commonly referred to as the “flow” state.

Score Reports & Diagnostic Test

We will use a diagnostic test to assess the content areas that you need help with and to establish a timeline for our tutoring sessions. We use an online test center through Summit Educational Group, to score your practice tests and provide a detailed score report.

SAT Practice Tests & ACT Practice Tests

Practice, practice, practice!! Like any new skill, it is vitally important to practice. Test Prep is no different. We will practice taking actual ACT and SAT Test under timed conditions to prepare you for the the real thing. The online test center through Summit Educational Group provides a score report for each practice test, indicating strengths and areas of challenge.

Meet the Counselor

Andrew had a plan from an early age to get into the best college he could and this translated into a very focused high school career when he took the SAT five times. He went to Columbia University to study engineering and ended up exploring several different areas of study before landing on Psychology. He has been tutoring and teaching SAT/ACT Prep for the past 15 years. Originally trained as an SAT Tutor through Summit Educational Group in Boston, MA, Andrew and has more recently begun teaching SAT/ACT Prep classes through the Carolina Day School. He currently runs his own private practice in Asheville, NC.

Andrew combines his skill and training as a counselor, with his experience teaching and tutoring, to create a very welcoming environment for students. He excels at building rapport quickly and assessing each students unique needs. The most consistent feedback from his students is that they are surprised how engaging a session of prepping for the SAT can be!
